onal development workshop. Participants will hear stimulating talks from polar scientists, educators, indigenous Arctic community members, as well as leaders and innovators working on some of the most critical issues facing the planet. You will try new activities, experiments and lessons that you will be able to adapt for use in your own classroom.
Participants will also take part in the From Knowledge to Action Conference (April 22-27, 2012) which will bring together the latest science findings from the Arctic and Antarctic on everything from oceans to the atmosphere, to snow, permafrost and sea ice, to vegetation and wildlife, to economic and social development and the people and communities who call the Arctic home. The conference will feature speeches and panel discussions by visionaries and leading world experts in polar issues, including Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, a Special Envoy on Climate Change for the United Nations Secretary General and Dr. Sheila Jasanoff from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. The conference also includes special sessions dedicated to public engagement, education and outreach, including presentations on best practices in teaching polar science and inspiring youth. Presentations and discussions at the conference will help to shape the stewardship, sustainable development and environmental protection of the poles over the coming years.
