A pioneer of both cold and hot fusion nucleosynthesis, Oganessian has dedicated his life towards the discovery and synthesis of new elements and the pursuit of knowledge beyond our current understanding. He and his team have been involved in the discovery of several elements. Element 118, oganesson, is named in his honor.
