It's worth noting that "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah" wasn't officially released in the United States until 1998. Although bootleg copies showed up at conventions and comic book stores throughout the 90s, most Americans were unaware of the film's existence until TriStar started hyping up their big-budget remake. The 90s Godzilla films (dubbed the "Heisei series" by fans) would show up in news items during the 90s. CNN also famously ran an obituary for the King of the Monsters after the release of "Godzilla vs. Destoroyah" (1995), the final film of the Heisei series and the film in which Godzilla dies.
