of a mass wedding (samuh vivah).
All 1,115 couples had registered for this mass wedding two months ago. Vishnu Vaman Charitable Trust (VIVA) managed all the expenses for the event. These expenses includedRs.50,000 cash for couples who were performing an inter-caste wedding and Rs.10,000 cash for intra-cast couples. Besides cash, a gold mangalsutra for each bride, a gold ring for every groom, wedding attire for both, plus utensils and other essential materials required during a wedding procession were also provided for by the organisation, free of charge.
61 corporators, two MLA'S, one MP of the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi party were helming the wedding field, along with 800 volunteers.
The wedding took place in a huge ground with more than two lakh people in attendance. The wedding rituals were followed by entertainment activities which included laser shows and musical fountain.
The couples were showered by roses being strewn from a helicopter. The grounds facilitated for amusement park for children, and cultural shows and musical orchestras for the older lot. The entrance and exit of the wedding ground had 3.5 km long varli rangoli.
Among the guests were Chief Minister of Maharastra Prithvi Raj Chavan, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharastra Ajit Pawar, MLA Abu Azmi and actors from the Marathi film industry.
This wedding, with its marriage of 1,115 couples in unison, has been included in the Guinness World Records.
