The heist was planned by Jimmy Burke, an associate of the Lucchese crime family, and carried out by serassociates. The plot began when bookmaker Martin Krugman told Henry Hill about millions of dollars in untraceable money: American currency flown in once a month from monetary exchanges for military bases.
Jimmy Burke's crew of seven armed bandits raided the Lufthansa cargo hangar at Kennedy Airport. They brazenly held hostage the security guard and the night shift personnel and cleaned out the vault where the German airline stored unmarked small U.S. money that had been transport back from Europe for international banks. The thieves made off with over $6,000,000. Todate the money was never found and this heist holds the record for never recovered loot.
The book is expected to be released in the Spring of 2014, and a full-length feature film is scheduled to go into production in August of 2014
