opular hangout where he became a local legend and was publicly mourned. A poem of celebration, “Don è morto,” is included in Julian Stannard’s volume Sottoripa. Poesie genovesi (Genoa: Il Canneto, 2018): “Don is leaving Piazza of the Herbs. / In 30 years he drank fifty-four thousand / and seven hundred gin and tonics…”.
