In this video I get to practice and showcase my two biggest passions in life .
Satyabhāma, the most amorous consort of Lord Krishna,
is the heroine of this dance number and is a
‘Swādhina Pathika’
...
(hero-in-her-grip) type of heroine.
Siddhendra Yogi thought every devotee as a consort of
Lord Krishna and Krishna as Loka Bhartia (eternal husband).
He placed himself in the position of Satyabhama who could
not stand separated from her Lord, even for a moment.
He composed song after song and the whole saga is known as
‘Bhama Kalapam’.
Composed between the 11th and 14th centuries,
Bhamakalapam is the most popular dance number even today.
It is invariably the dream of every Kuchipudi artist to dance
in the role of Satyabhama at least once in their life time.
Pravesha Daruvu, when Bhama enters with pride as the one who was gifted the sacred Parijata tree by her lover krishna; the most beautiful amongst 1600 gopika, the daughter or Kind Sattrajittu
Siggayano Darubu, when Bhama feels shy to call out her husbands name to madhavi - her handmaiden and feels teased and shy. Here Madhavi is potrayed by Dr. Raja Reddy in conversation with Bhavana
Madana Daruvu, Bhama
feels agony and the pangs of love remembering her lover and crying to Madana (Cupid) to leave her be.
Lekha, Bhama writes a letter of love and apology to her lover the supreme lord Krishna. She expresses her sorry plight of loneliness, when the buzzing bees are making her head spin, the moon makes a mockery of her feelings, cupid sharp arrows are wounding her heart. She asks for his forgiveness and writes word of love to convince him to come back to her. Here Bhavana executes the Lekha by singing and dancing
Kuchipudi is a dance drama known to be a sampoorna kala including elements of vachika abhinaya (speech) which is what makes it unique.
