STORYLINE:
The public cremation of the Nepalese king, queen and six other family members, who were gunned down
...
last night at the royal palace, has taken place at the holiest shrine in the Hindu kingdom.
Their ashes were to be scattered along the holy river.
Earlier, thousands of people lined the streets for the funeral procession.
Mourners clasped their hands in respect and offered flowers as the bodies were taken from an army hospital on their final journey.
Officials say the nation's crown prince slaughtered his father and mother -- the king and queen -- and six other family members on Friday night.
They say he then shot himself.
He's on life support.
But some Nepalese suspect the government was behind the palace massacre.
The prime minister says the "truth and facts" will be made public.
A senior military official inside the royal palace says the shooting stemmed from a dispute over who the crown prince was to marry.
Nepal's prime minister is promising an investigation into the massacre of the royal family.
