"This is one effort and other things we should do to try to put weapons under some kind of appropriate authority," she said. Feinstein disagreed with the NRA proposal to put armed guards in schools. Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC) said he believed Feinstein's desired ban on assault weapons wouldn't work. "We had the assault weapons ban from 1994 to 2004 and the conclusion was, it did not change crime," he said. The "best way" to handle violent crime, according to Graham, is to "identify these people before they act and do something about it." He vowed to oppose an assault weapons ban because it "didn't work then and doesn't work now."
