Annually celebrated on June 20th, World Refugee Day draws attention to the problems of people who have lost their home due to conflicts and persecutions. The song called "A Paper Plane" reminds us of the necessity for everyone to feel supported and to have a home. Those who have lost their home too often feel in danger and live in fear. The song inspires them not to lose hope and to strive for their goals. Together with Gaitana, the song was sung by children from the music group "Zabava", Adel Nazarchuk and other talented children. Refugee children from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Somalia, whose families found refuge in Ukraine, took part in the creation of the music video. "You're not alone! Our compassion and support to people who have lost their home and hope gives them the opportunity to build a happy future for themselves and their children," said Gaitana during the presentation of the song. UNHCR is grateful to Gaitana for giving a beautiful voice and an Ukrainian translation to the original English song. UNHCR's annual report on global trends shows that as of the end of 2019, an unprecedented 79.5 million people have been displaced. This is the highest number of refugees, displaced persons and stateless people recorded by the Agency in its entire 70-year history. “The problem of relocation is extremely important for Ukraine, as a large number of people have been relocated due to the difficult situation in Crimea and Donbas. More than 1.4 million displaced persons: behind this figure is human tragedy, suffering, and the pain of separation from family and friends," said Pablo Mateu, UNHCR Representative in Ukraine.
