Thousands of people gathered on beaches across Australia to protest against the shark cull policy implemented in the state of Western Australia.
The government has begun placing baited hooks on drum
...
lines off popular beaches in and around Perth to kill white, bull and tiger sharks over three metres (10 feet) long.
The measures have been put in place in response to seven fatal shark attacks in Australia's south west in three years
.
Marine Biologist Dan Monbeaux explained why he was against the cull of the sharks, "they're in trouble and they need are help," he said.
"They really need some more research, we need to understand their feeding and foraging behaviours and I think we also need to bring users of the marine environment, particularly those who are out at remote surf breaks, to understand theat they are sharing waters with large predators."
