London 24 July 2012. Two days before the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games a fireworks display and light show engulfed London's famous Tower Bridge in smoke and flames.
The Olympic excitement wa

s tangible on the south bank of the River Thames as both tourists and Londoners stood and watched an unannounced display of the new lighting system on Tower Bridge with the addition of approximately 100 lighting units.
As the iconic bridge opened a brightly lit fast boat painted in red white and blue and trailing smoke sped towards the bridge.
With split second timing pyrotechnics were ignited underneath the raised bascules as the boat passed beneath.
Several Tower Bridge lifts were scheduled for the evening and the fast boat raced up and down the river several times, once with a woman holding a flaming torch in the bow of the boat - but the torch was of a different design to the Olympic Torch which has been touring the country.
Speculation amongst onlookers and on social networks was rife and the common consensus was that this was a rehearsal for an event on the evening of Friday 27th July when the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony takes place.
However it remains to be seen what the precise connection is between this fireworks rehearsal and the Olympics Ceremony.
One clue may be that in June a helicopter was flown through Tower Bridge under the direction of Danny Boyle - the well known film maker and artistic director of the Olympic Opening Ceremony.
Is there a connection between these events? No one knows for sure and the answer will only be known on Friday evening as the eyes of the world turn to London.
