TIRAMISÙ is a coffee-flavored Italian cake made with sponge fingers and Mascarpone cream.
In Italian, “tirami su” literally means “lift me up”.
In 1 slice of Tiramisu there are: 492 calories.
INGREDIENTS:
Sponge fingers, egg yolks, sugar, coffee, mascarpone cheese and cocoa powder.
VARIATIONS:
- Some people also add whipped cream and egg whites.
- Others make it with strawberries and Nutella.
- Others add liquor.
ORIGIN:
- The name comes from a semi-frozen dessert first served in 1938, and later known as “Tiremesu”.
But it wasn’t Tiramisu as we know it today, it was more of a layered chocolate mousse with sponge bread.
- The origin of Tiramisu is disputed between Italy’s northern regions, but it’s based on a traditional recipe known for centuries as Zuppa Inglese (“English trifle”).
What distinguished Tiramisu was the use of mascarpone cheese and coffee instead of custard cream and liquor.
