William Michael Zabka (born October 20th, 1965) is an American actor, screenwriter, director and producer known for appearing in several other iconic 1980s films including "National Lampoon's European Vacation" (1985), "Just One of the Guys" (1985) and "Back to School" (1986). In 2004, he was nominated for an Academy Award for co-writing and producing the short film "Most."
"The Karate Kid" is a 1984 American martial arts drama created by Robert Mark Kamen, also starring Elisabeth Shue and the late Pat Morita, that became a franchise and spawned three sequels ("Part II" in 1986, "Part III" in 1989 and "The Next Karate Kid" in 1994), a reboot in 2010, an animated series in 1989 and the "Cobra Kai" web television series in 2018. An underdog story in the mold of "Rocky" (1976), the original film -- which centred on the 'Goju-ryu, Goju Kai' style of karate -- was a commercial success upon release and garnered critical acclaim, earning Morita a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
"Cobra Kai is an American comedy-drama web TV series that premiered on May 2nd, 2018, on YouTube Red (now YouTube Premium). The series was created by Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald and stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, reprising their roles from the films, who also serve as co-executive producers. It takes place 34 years after the original film and follows the reopening of the Cobra Kai karate dojo by Johnny Lawrence and the rekindling of his old rivalry with Daniel LaRusso. On May 10th, 2018, it was announced that the series had been renewed for a second season of ten episodes that is set to premiere on April 24th, 2019.
