name Emad Saif Mohammed and Mohammed Ali who are indulged in procuring Khat Leaves contraband from Ethiopia through Mumbai and selling it to the fellow foreigners in Hyderabad. Seized (99) bundles of Khat leaves, and (2) mobile phones from their possession.
DETAILS OF ACCUSED:
1) Emad Saif Mohammed S/o. Saif Mohammed, age:- 29 yrs, Occ:- Student, MBA (IT), Shahity College, Masab Tank, R/o. H.No.13-6-34/A/139, sardar bagh, Langer House, Hyd. N/o Taiz Street No.26, Yemen.
2) Mohammad Ali S/o Awdh age:21 Occ: student R/o H.No.13-6-34/A/139, sardar bagh, Langer House, Hyd. N/o Sanaa, Hadab, Yemen.
3)Shahid, age: 32 years,Occ: Business, H.No.13-6-34/A/139, sardar bagh, Langer House, Hyd.(Asconding)
MODUS OPERANIDI:
The accused persons are Yemen nationals who came to India on Student Visa. The accused Emad Saif Mohammed perusing his MBA from Sahity College, Masabtank, Hyderabad. And the accused Mohammad Ali who is a friend of Emad came to india two months back and studying in Banglore. Some of his Country men were procuring Khat leaves (stimulant Narcotic drug) from Ethiopia and Yemen Countries. The above said leafy contraband drug will cause intoxication/ Stimulation, on chewing the leaves it increases the alertness and excitement, relaxation, ability to concentrate, confidence, friendliness and reduces appetite. The drug is secretly procured in the name of vegetables by air cargo from the above countries. As they are in financial crisis and unable to pay the monthly rents and for their routine expenditure, they along with one Shahid of Hyderabad started selling Khat leaves. Shahid procured Khat leaves from Ethiopia through Mumbai from agents. For each bundle he pays Rs.400/- to the agents. Yesterday Shahid collected two cartons of khat leaves from airport and kept in room. While Emad and Mohammed are selling the contraband material at their room at Hakeempet to the needy customersat the rate ranging from Rs. 1000/- to Rs. 2000/- and getting profit illegally.
Previously A-1 was arrested for the same offence in June-2013 by Task Force.

The Khat leaves contain psycho active ingredients known as cathinone and cathine. Both these chemicals come under Narcotic Drugs act purview. Khat is a flowering shrub, it has stimulant effect similar to that of cocaine. Khat leaves are grown in Somalia, Ethiopia and Yemen countries. Khat is taken by chewing the leaves and dried Khat leaves, can be mixed in tea decoction. The user experiences immediate increase in blood pressure and heart beat rate may result in Heart attack, Liver Failure, Decay of tooth's, Throat Cancer etc. It has effect of mild depression, extreme thrust, insomnia etc. It also damages the nervous, respiratory, circulatory and digestive system. It is an illegal drug falls under Schedule-I drug under the Controlled Substances Act. As such it comes under the purview of Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substance.
In view of the above reasons, public are requested not to use the Khat leaves for intoxication. If anybody found selling the Khat leaves they may inform the police.
On 31-10-2013 the West Zone Task Force team conducted raid at the above place and arrested the aforesaid accused. The accused along with material are being handed over to SHO, Banjara Hills Nagar P.S for taking necessary action under NDPS Act.
The arrest was made under the supervision of Sri P.Rameshaiah, Addl. Dy. Commissioner of Police, Commissioner's Task Force by Sri Y. Prakash Reddy, Inspector of Police with the assistance of SIs Sri D. Jalandher Reddy, M.Venkateshwar goud, K.Srinivas and the Staff of West Zone Team, Commissioner's Task Force, Hyderabad.
