The Championship is run by An Coimisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha, an organisation with the objective to promote and preserve Irish dancing. In order to manage the growing interest in Irish dancing, the organisation has recently moved into the computer age to help with its administrative functions. It is not only technology that has changed. So too has the dance.
Irish dance nowadays is much more intricate and inventive permitting the individual liberties unthinkable in the recent past.
Much of the interest in Irish dancing comes from overseas and, for many, this is their last link with Ireland.
