me. The family regularly sought out the latest movies from the era's most popular stars and Carl credits his older brother Charlie with inspiring him to become a performer.
In 1942 he met Estelle Lebost, the woman who would become his wife.
He got his big break in 1950, when he was hired as a writer and performer on Your Show Of Shows, the legendary variety series starring Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca. A decade later, he would go on to create The Dick Van Dyke Show, which is still considered to be one of the fifty greatest television shows of all time.
For nearly 70 years, he has maintained a close friendship with Mel Brooks. Even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, they still see each other almost every day (while practicing social distancing, of course).
A prolific author at age 98, Reiner continues to write books and finds countless ways to remain creative during quarantine.
