#CollectionStories: How a private collection opened to public - Part II
After establishing the Museum of Modern Art at NCPA in 1976, Nicholson exhibited more than 250 works from his collection at NGMA, Mumbai in 1998 and NGMA Delhi in 1999.
“The whole space of the 5 galleries including the Dome Gallery have all been used, although it has not been able to cope with the total collection.” - J. Nicholson on his NGMA, Mumbai exhibition.
Nicholson thus continued his quest to build a museum of contemporary art that could accommodate his growing collection. He was in conversation with the govt for a space in the city, till he passed away.
Nearly a decade after his death and the subsequent closing of the JN Museum at NCPA in 2001, JNAF partnered with CSMVS; and the Jehangir Nicholson gallery opened to the public on 11th April 2011. The gallery functions as the modern and contemporary wing of the museum. #10YearsAtCSMVS
