The Cincinnati Art Museum is proud to be a part of the newly created Monuments Men and Women Museum Network, established by the Monuments Men Foundation for the Preservation of Art (@monumentsmenfoundation). The museum has a direct connection to the Foundation and the #MFAA through #MonumentsMan Capt. Walter Farmer (1911-1997), who lectured at the Cincinnati Art Museum before and after WWII. During his wartime service, Capt. Farmer served as Director of the Wiesbaden Central Collecting Point. The legacy of Capt. Farmer is inextricably linked with the Wiesbaden Manifesto, which objected to the transport of 200 masterpieces from Germany to the United States. Opening July 9, 2021, special exhibition 'Paintings, Politics and the Monuments Men: The Berlin Masterpieces in America' will focus on those 200 paintings and their tour of the United States. To learn more about Capt. Farmer, the Wiesbaden Manifesto, and the upcoming exhibition, please view our story highlight.
