The movie "Scumbag" has been a work in progress since 1989!  It was originally called "Smog" which ended up becoming filmmaker, Mars Roberge's thesis script in 1995 while attending York University Film School.  It has the same main characters as Scumbag with the same jobs, same friends but this version focused a bit more on the main characters' life as a dj.  The guinea pig testing telemarketers, artist girlfriend and animal people with baseball bats were all in it though as well as most of the same dialogue.  Mars registered "Smog" in 2000 at the Writers Guild of Canada and the Writers Guild of America East before showing it around the industry in NYC in 2000.  Mars helped turn Toronto into one of the largest Goth cities in the world just from his experience researching the script, from being a club patron to becoming a dj/party promoter.  Then after graduating York University in 95, he got a job as a telemarketer and included all his experiences from 1995-2000 in his 2001 version of "Smog" with some more characters now titled “Scumbag". The first draft of Scumbag  was completed in 2009 and then registered with the WGA in 2014 because he was sidetracked with moving across the country, touring with a documentary he made  called "The Little House That Could" that was shot from 2006-2012.  Other versions of Scumbag were registered with the Library of Congress in 2015 and 2017 respectively. Mars now lives in Los Angeles next door to his 90's original story editor for "Smog" who's first reaction to "Scumbag" was "this is SMOG!" SCUMBAG WAS 28 YEARS IN THE MAKING AND ALL BASED ON THE FILMMAKER'S LIFE EXPERIENCES!
