#TellUsTigers: "I played Zach Florrick on @TheGoodWife_CBS. I was homeschooled the first few seasons but when it came time for college, I was craving a 'normal' social experience and, ideally, an old Gothic campus that would make me feel academic enough to stay focused on learning about things not directly pertaining to my career for four years. #PrincetonU was a great choice & I was happily surprised at how accommodating the University was with regard to my bizarre filming situation, which required me to go to #NYC to film a new episode just about every week. Turns out I didn't have to choose between academia & art on campus. I just had my onstage directorial debut with the musical '#Once' (@PrincetonArts). I've worked with quite a few directors, whether on #Broadway or the @MetOpera, but #TheGoodWife was really the most helpful in preparing me to explore the other side of the camera (or proscenium, in this case). The show used dozens of directors with diverse styles. Getting to see how the same cast and crew reacted to them differently and which brought out their best work was incredibly informative. This helped me learn that the end result of any artistic endeavor is best served if the process is structured, if only to make you & your collaborators more comfortable improvising while rehearsing. It's easier to make the best creative choices when given a set of parameters. I discovered that having a cast & crew that is invested in your vision & in good spirits is more important than ensuring the version you have stuck in your mind is translated literally from your brain to reality. There is a balance to be struck, to be sure, but the latter will drive you crazy & alienate others while the former invites collaboration & forms a sense of community that makes it all worthwhile, regardless of the result. 'Once,' a show about the power of music, collaboration & understanding to bring people together despite their pain & differences, helped me learn this balance & turned out to be more relevant now than I could have i
