For the last month, Tareq Hajjaj (@tareqshajjaj), 30, has been reporting in apocalyptic conditions from Gaza while also taking care of his family.
Hajjaj has written about what it's like to see buildings collapse, about young mothers and friends who were killed in Israeli airstrikes, and about the feeling of helplessness when there is nowhere left to run to.
Over the course of several days, USA TODAY communicated with Hajjaj through brief audio notes and messages sent via WhatsApp, one of the only ways to keep in touch with people in Gaza.
