Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year, abortion rights activists have been on a winning streak, with several states either passing ballot measures to protect abortion access or rejecting efforts to restrict it.
Ohio joined that group Tuesday, as voters approved a state constitutional amendment to protect abortion rights until viability — typically around 24 weeks gestation — and the right to access contraception, fertility treatment and other services in the state.
The result could be a strong signal ahead of the 2024 election, when multiple other states are expected to consider similar measures.
