Powerful images that help connect us to the natural world were revealed last week by The Nature Conservancy 2023 photo contest. Winners of its 2023 contest captured a range of scenes that show the beauty and “peril of the natural world – with closeups of creatures great and small, painterly landscapes in all seasons and amazing scenes of exploration on land and sea,” a press release from the organization said. Out of more than 80,000 individual photographers and over 189,000 entries from 191 countries and territories, a panel of judges chose Hungarian photographer Tibor Litauszki as the winner of this year’s grand prize for his underwater photo of a newt eating freshly-laid frog’s eggs.
