More than half a million Americans live without adequate shelter. To help, more cities are betting big on tiny homes.
The structures, which are around 100 square feet, are one of the latest solutions to America's homeless crisis, in which local leaders across the U.S. are trying to get tens of thousands of residents from the streets indoors to homeless shelters, temporary hotel rooms or apartments paid for by government vouchers.
In March, California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a plan to build 1,200 tiny homes in Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego and San Jose. Other states, such as Arizona, Colorado and Texas, are also beginning or expanding upon such programs.
