A common way of fixing pipes is making people sick. Cured-in-place pipe repair projects are everywhere in the United States, but noxious fumes from the project can pose health hazards. CIPP carries a public health risk that the cured-in-place pipe lining industry has downplayed, and government regulators have all but ignored, even as the list of exposures continues to grow, a USA TODAY investigation found. The U-shaped bend in the pipes under most sinks and toilets is designed to effectively block fumes from the sewer from entering a structure. But some older buildings lack these traps.
