Mikaela Shiffrin has become the winningest skier of all time.
One day after matching Swedish legend Ingemar Stenmark’s 34-year-old record for all-time World Cup wins, Shiffrin picked up her historic 87th career victory in a slalom in Are, Sweden.
Shiffrin built a big lead in the first run, flowing between the tightly-spaced gates while other skiers fight through them. Only two skiers were within a second of her after that first run, and Shiffrin skied aggressively enough in the second run to not just hold them off but build on her lead.
Shiffrin dropped to the snow after she crossed the finish line, taking a few minutes to let the magnitude of the moment sink in. Other skiers rushed to congratulate her and she was then surprised by her brother, Taylor, who lifted Shiffrin up in a bear hug.
"Pretty hard to comprehend that thought," Shiffrin said. "Holy crap."
