Late last year, Congress passed a law that ends the requirement for animal testing in drug approval. That means companies can find alternative ways to test drugs instead of using mice, rabbits or primates. It marks a triumph in scientific research on human cells and technology, as well as for animal rights activists, who have lobbied about the issue for over 40 years. But experts say change won’t stop animal testing overnight.
