Three University of Virginia football players were killed in a shooting rampage on a charter bus that had returned from a field trip on Sunday, authorities said. "This is a sad, shocking and tragic day for our UVA community," University of Virginia President Jim Ryan said. The suspected shooter, is a former UVA football player. He was taken into custody just before 11 a.m. Monday in Henrico County, about 75 miles southeast of Charlottesville, Henrico Police said in a statement. Ryan said the shooter, 22, is a student at the 22,000-student school. Authorities said the shooter had previously been reported to the school’s threat assessment team in September 2022 after a person not affiliated with the school heard him make a comment about owning a gun.
