European officials suspect sabotage after three leaks were discovered Monday in two Russian undersea pipelines that carry natural gas from Russia to Germany. Two underwater explosions, or shakings, were recorded in the Baltic Sea shortly before leaks were found in the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines. Both pipelines were not operational. The pipelines have been a point of dispute between Russia and European Union members, who have criticized Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and provided aid to Ukrainians.
