The sturgeon moon rose in the Thursday night sky, the final supermoon of the year. 🌕
But, for once, the celestial spectacle wasn't welcomed by all skywatchers, as the dazzling full moon unfortunately clashed with one of the most anticipated meteor showers of the year – the Perseid meteor shower, according to Space.com.
But it didn't stop these photographers from capturing some stunning shots.
Why is it called the sturgeon moon?
"August’s full moon was traditionally called the sturgeon moon because the giant sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this part of summer," the Old Farmer's Almanac said. Tap the link in bio to read more.
