"Justice has been delivered and this terrorist leader is no more," President Joe Biden said in a special address at the White House Monday evening, announcing the death of top al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahri. Biden said Monday that a U.S. drone strike in Afghanistan over the weekend killed al-Zawahri, the successor of the terrorist network’s slain leader Osama bin Laden. U.S. intelligence officials tracked al-Zawahri, 71, to a home in downtown Kabul where he was hiding out with his family. The president approved the operation last week, and it was carried out on Sunday. The strike killed al-Zawahri – the most senior leader of al-Qaida since 2011 – and no one else, including civilians, Biden said. The announcement comes nearly one year after the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, ending America's longest war amid the Taliban's return to power. 🔗 Visit our link in bio to read more.
