Facing pressure from his party to act more aggressively to safeguard abortion rights, President Joe Biden on Friday announced new steps his administration is taking. Biden signed an executive order instructing the Department of Health and Human Services to protect and expand access to abortion care, including access to medication approved by the Food and Drug Administration as safe and effective for over 20 years. Advocacy groups have been pressing for strong action, such as a declaration of a public health emergency and leasing federal property to abortion providers, since the recent Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v.
