Children among the so-called “COVID generation” are experiencing an uptick in developmental delays and challenging behaviors. Born during or shortly before the pandemic, these children are slower to pick up language and motor skills and more prone to outbursts. During the pandemic, many children were isolated and fell behind. The surge in poverty, food insecurity and parental stress, loneliness, anxiety and depression have also limited child development.
Interviews with dozens of parents, providers and educators across the U.S. seem to confirm what the data are starting to reveal: Young children born in the past few years are more likely to be stunted developmentally.
