In her first-ever Grand Slam final, American 18-year-old Coco Gauff lost to top-ranked Polish Iga Swiatek in the final match of the women's French Open, receiving a finalist plate award after the match.
Gauff is the youngest French Open finalist since Kim Clijsters in 2001, and was vying to be the youngest Slam title winner since Maria Sharapova was 17 at Wimbledon in 2004. Despite her loss, Gauff remains motivated — and she's certain there will be a next time for her to win the singles title.
This year's French Open was the 11th major tournament of Gauff’s career and her first trip past the quarterfinals.
Gauff still has another chance to leave Paris a champion, as she vies for the women's doubles title with Jessica Pegula against Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic on Sunday.
