There was no doubt which tie Coe Murdock was going to wear to his high school graduation in Birmingham, Alabama. Murdock dug into his closet and pulled out the one gifted to him by Jim Nantz of CBS Sports. On the back of the tie, Nantz inscribed a note: "To Coe, My friend. Dream Big! 4/14/2013." In 2012, Murdock’s parents encouraged him to write a letter to Nantz because he was developing a deep affection for sports, particularly golf, and had visions of hosting the CBS broadcast someday like Nantz. The longtime voice of CBS Sports received the letter and responded with a note and signed picture. "I thought that was going to kind of be it," Murdock wrote in a recent email. But a few months later, while attending the Masters with his grandmother and father, Murdock met Nantz and was invited to Butler Cabin after the Green Jacket Ceremony. The pair spoke for a few minutes and Nantz gave him the signed tie. In the ensuing years, have exchanged hand-written letters and spent time at Augusta National. Looking back, the initial meeting has meant a great deal to Murdock. "The Masters and the whole experience with him definitely made me fall in love with the game though and I’ve loved it ever since," Murdock said. And for Nantz, the recent graduate's gesture has meant just as much. "I was so honored to hear that nine years later Coe wore my tie to his graduation," he said.
