Abortion clinics are already like mini fortresses, many with steel doors, bodyguards, safe rooms and panic buttons. With a looming Supreme Court decision on Roe v. Wade, federal officials have warned local law enforcement and clinics about the potential for violence at protests and clinics.
While murders connected to clinics have become less common, other types of violence has been rising, according to @nationalabortionfederation, including trespassing and obstruction, death threats, and mail and internet harassment.
"Everyone connected to it is at risk," said Kate Kelly, a human rights attorney and an organizer for @shoutyourabortion. "It's an intentional, deliberate act to keep us away from the work. But at the end of the day, many of us don't have a choice. We are the only ones who will protect us and our fundamental rights."
