Nearly a dozen explosions and fires in Russian territory bordering Ukraine since April 1 could signal the war is moving in a new direction — across borders and into neighboring countries.
Some of the incidents are deliberate while others could be accidental. It's not known whether they're a coordinated effort, though some targeted links in Russia’s military supply chain.
Fuel storage units, an ammunition depot and other sites less than 100 miles from the Ukrainian border have been hit. Other targets, deeper in Russia, caught fire.
The West has given Ukraine longer-range weapons, but causes of the April incidents remain unknown. Russia has accused Ukraine of cross-border attacks on military targets, which Ukraine has denied.
