Research on Asian women in the workplace paints a bleak picture for upward mobility. Their careers are undercut byharmful stereotypes and racist tropes. They often are passed over for promotions, excluded from professional networks and have few if any role models. Among the professional and management ranks of the nation’s top companies, 1 in every 45 white men and 1 in every 60 white women are executives. For Asian managers and professionals, only 1 in every 96 men and 1 in every 124 women hold a top job, according to federal workforce records USA TODAY gathered from 88 companies in the Standard & Poor’s 100. “The issues are the same as when I was coming up and entering the workforce, which says to me that the issues are systemic,” said Anne Chow, CEO of AT&T Business.
