Nearly a decade after her mother died by suicide, Laura Trujillo discusses her journey with grief in her new book, “Stepping Back From the Ledge.” Trujillo confronts her family’s secrets in the aftermath of her mother’s suicide, asking a seemingly impossible question: How do you mourn a loved one as you repair the injuries they inflicted? She takes readers back to 2016 when she spent time at the Grand Canyon, a place her mother loved and the place where she died, to find forgiveness and understanding. “Now, I didn’t just want to know everything. I needed to know it,” Trujillo, USA TODAY managing editor for Life and Entertainment, wrote.
