How the Brooklyn subway shooting unfolded.
The shooting began before 8:30 a.m. on a Manhattan-bound N train in Brooklyn's Sunset Park neighborhood, Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said at a news conference.
New York City Fire Department First Deputy Commissioner Laura Kavanagh said 10 people were shot. Sewell said none of the injuries were life-threatening. At least 19 others were taken to hospitals for injuries ranging from smoke inhalation to shrapnel wounds, fall injuries, and panic attacks.
Authorities say the gunman fired 33 times with a Glock 17 9mm semi-handgun, which was found in the subway. Three extended magazines were found at the scene.The gunman's motive is unknown. Sewell said the "victims had a variety of ethnic backgrounds."
Police say that security cameras in three stations were not functioning during the attack and the cause is under investigation. The shooter is believed to have entered the subway system at the King's Highway station and police are seeking tips. Services on the lines in Brooklyn and some Manhattan stations were suspended, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
