An untold number of children under 10 are arrested at schools every year even though experts warn of potential trauma and see almost no legal justification. No one has studied what life looks like in the years after very young children are arrested, experts say. Because of the nature of trauma, it’s hard to say how one incident plays out over the course of a life. USA TODAY spent time getting to know Kaia, Malachi and Evelyn, three children who faced police action in school. What was clear was that their experiences left an indelible imprint on their lives.
