Hank Thomas was 19 when he became one of the original 13 Freedom Riders that traveled from Washington, D.C., to New Orleans. On May 14, 1961, a Greyhound bus carrying seven freedom riders drove into Anniston, Alabama, and was immediately swarmed by angry white supremacists and eventually set on fire.
Hank tells the story of how Freedom Riders barely escaped death on the Seven Days of 1961 podcast. Listen at the link in bio.
