Death toll from Ida's stunning blast through the Northeast rose to at least 18 Thursday, but the good news is that the storm has run its course.
A wide swath of the Northeast became overwhelmed by fierce downpours and localized flooding. But on Thursday the center of the storm was more than 100 miles east of Massachusetts and moving to the northeast, forecasters said.
In Louisiana, 1 million people remained without power; 7 people died in the Southeast; At least nine people died in New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio said. Five deaths were reported in New Jersey, three in Pennsylvania and one in Maryland.
Fortunately, the center of the storm is more than 100 miles east of Massachusetts and moving to the northeast, Accuweather Senior Meteorologist John Feerick said. "As far as the United States goes, it's gone."
