The House has passed a bill that will remove Confederate statues from the U.S. Capitol by a vote of 285 to 120.
The bill, which now heads to the Senate, would affect some statues chosen by states to be displayed in the Capitol’s National Statuary Hall.
The bill also specifically calls for the removal of a bust of former Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger Taney, who wrote the Dred Scott decision in 1857.
Any statue removed and not owned by a state would be up to the Architect of the Capitol to address.
