One of my close friends calls me “It” during fashion week. They use that as a neutral term and refer to me as a “work of art” so the pronoun “it” is intended as artistic and honorable. One of my parents calls me “she/her”. My other parent calls me “he/him”. My current partner fluctuates pronouns often peppering in many things usually circling back to “they/them”. I’ve never really cared about pronouns for my own descriptors. The idea that in order to refer to me in a sentence, people have to affiliate me with a division of society and it’s historical relevance is exhausting. I am I. I’ve never been and I never will be. I simply am. I can’t be compared to any other being. However I understand some people want to use a pronoun for me. They are used to it. So I let people see/feel what they want. I don’t moderate their micro language regarding me. I only check their intention or tone. Everyone sees something different and I want them to feel as free as I do so I don’t limit their language. I let it be free. However when it comes to others who desire specific pronouns and gender acknowledgements I respect and fight for their right to those. Why? Because some people have lost their homes, families, friends, jobs, and even lives for the right to use that sound. The right to that identity. The right to that respect. I will show up with them to protect their access to that respect every single day. It costs nothing to validate each other’s existences through basic language, and doing so can save lives. #ProAtPronouns #lgbtq #genderqueer #genderfluid #trans #lovewins #languageisntlimitation #iami #wearenotwords #frolic #WhackATroll
