Here is our formal response to the inflammatory and misleading email that Chancellor Christ sent to the UC Berkeley student body yesterday afternoon. This open letter was drafted by members of Defend People’s Park, our community of students, East Bay residents, and park-goers who stand by our demand to permanently end Capitol Strategies’ development of the park (see our previous post for our full demands list)! The Chancellor’s letter shows how desperate the UC is to push false narratives to justify gentrification, since students are successfully organizing against them. Thank you all for your support - please share this letter and let Chancellor Christ know that the Berkeley community does NOT support the destruction of this land, and that we oppose her spread of misinformation and false claims regarding the UC’s activity within the park.
