When something awful is happening, far outside our ability to personally stop it all, it’s hard to know what’s right to do.
We must look at where we are effective. Can we donate? Call a representative? Sign petitions?
Do that.
Should we stay informed about the situation? Should we feel empathy and sadness, frustration and anger? Absolutely.
But in order to truly change the world, we can only work within our circles of effectiveness, and if we spend hours soaking our minds and hearts in the places we cannot be effective, we saturate every aspect of our lives with these feelings, and they can affect each circle negatively.
Circle 1. Our own bodies and minds. Care for and nurture both.
Circle 2. Our homes and the people living in them. Care for and nurture them.
Circle 3. Our neighborhoods. Do something helpful, just out of kindness, for someone.
Circle 4. Our city. Donate to a food bank. Volunteer.
Circle 5. Our state, our country. Sign petitions, donate to bigger causes, call representatives. Come along side strangers on social media and lift them up.
Circle 6. The world. All the same as 5, but also send your loving peaceful and healing energy to all beings everywhere.
When we do these, we are truly doing everything we can to create the world we wish for.
