“The Feminine Love of Horror” initially appeared in the January 1931 issue of Motion Picture Classic, and in many ways was more than likely a part of the typical studio ballyhoo churned to promote the 1931 Lugosi vehicle, DRACULA...but it also evokes some provocative and thought-provoking notions on women and horror...and where the two powerfully bisect. Lugosi also exalted that, “Women are born with horror in their bloodstream...[and] women feed the cemeteries. Without women, the shattered vases that were our bodies would be reduced to decent ash and the ghoulish appetites of the world would be a part of folklore.” 💀💋💀 Though an intensely varied, and often elevated, genre which viscerally draws back the curtain on our fears, social anxieties, and the darkest of truths, horror is also a genre that still suffers a lack of diversity. Support @womeninhorrormonth as it is ALL of our responsibilities to provide representation and showcase ALL women and the diverse stories they tell. 💀🚺 The TWHFFC continues to proudly unearth and expose the monstrously integral impact of women within the world of horror, so JOIN US, Fiends! .
