Lan Wong PhD ’77 and Deborah Chung SM '75, PhD '77 were raised in Hong Kong and attended the same high school (King’s College), but never met. After undergraduate education in Los Angeles at Cal State Northridge/UCLA and Caltech, respectively, they independently arrived at MIT for graduate school in 1973 and soon met along the Infinite Corridor of MIT. Lan conducted research in the late Professor Biemann’s mass spectrometry laboratory and periodically escorted Deborah to the Francis Bitter National Magnet Laboratory for her late-hour research under the late Professor Dresselhaus. They were married in 1976 and both earned their doctoral degrees in 1977 from MIT. In gratitude to their mentors, they established endowed scholarships and a lecture series that starts next month.
Lan Wong and Deborah Chung are celebrating their 45th reunion. Celebrate your reunion on MIT's campus May 27–29, 2022. Register before April 15 for a special early discount. Link in the bio.
